Job Summary:

The Orthopedic Technician II is a skilled allied health care professional who provides high-quality patient care in an orthopedic setting. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong ability to work independently, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient experiences.

This role is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in the practice of medicine, providing consultation, evaluation, treatment, and preventative care to patients. The Orthopedic Technician II will work closely with the orthopedic team to ensure seamless patient care and will be responsible for maintaining accurate medical records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies, adjusts, and removes casts, assembles traction apparatus, and fits strappings and splints for orthopedic patients.
  • Understands and utilizes proper aseptic techniques in dressing changes and setting up surgical fields.
  • Wets, wraps, and molds plaster bandages around areas of fractures.
  • Assists orthopedic surgeons in reduction of fractures.
  • Removes whole and broken casts and alters position of cast to change setting of patients' limbs or body parts as directed.
  • Assembles wooden, metal, plastic, or plaster material to make orthopedic splints.
  • Rigs pulleys, ropes, and frames to assemble fracture beds.
  • Attaches traction supports to patients' limbs and adjusts support to specified tension.
  • Assembles exercise frames.
  • Adjusts crutches, canes, braces, and splints to fit patients' needs.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Documented graduation from an Orthopedic Technician training program.
  • At least two years of experience in orthopedic patient care in an acute hospital or clinic within the past three years.
  • Must meet one of the following qualifications:
    • At least one year of experience as an Orthopedic Technician with Kaiser Permanente AND Certification by the National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computer literate.
  • Experience in automated clinical information systems.
