Job Overview

The Metal Fabrication Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective assembly of projects and sub-components to fulfill fabrication requirements and complete work orders, delivering high-quality products on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute precise fabrication tasks, including setup, layout, and fitting based on thorough interpretation of engineering schematics, work orders, bills of materials, standard operating procedures, inspection reports, and process control documentation.
  • Select suitable fabrication tools or techniques according to specifications outlined in blueprints and sketches.
  • Perform fit-up and tack welding of prepared materials in line with established shop protocols to achieve required tolerances for the final weldment.
  • Regularly inspect completed welds and projects to confirm compliance with blueprint tolerances. Carry out cutting, burning, drilling, tapping, grinding, and other processes as needed to meet final specifications for part tolerances, aesthetics, and overall quality standards.
  • Conduct final welding using GMAW, GTAW, FCW, or SMAW techniques, adhering to engineering specifications and procedures to produce weldments that meet criteria for squareness, dimensional accuracy, and warpage.
  • Safely handle and transport materials and equipment using forklifts and overhead cranes in accordance with company protocols.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent, along with at least one year of experience as a fabricator or completion of a relevant training program. Certification as a Welder from AWS is preferred, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Advanced knowledge of SMAW (stick), GMAW (mig), and GTAW (tig) welding processes is advantageous.

Ability to achieve forklift certification is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Mechanical Proficiency: Comprehensive understanding of spatial reasoning in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional contexts, as well as principles of heat transfer, velocity, gravity, and force. Capability to operate industrial vehicles safely.
  • Welding Expertise: Proficient in MIG, TIG, arc, and flux-cored welding techniques. Ability to set up and layout work for welding tasks.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage positively and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals across all organizational levels, demonstrating integrity and ethical standards.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and persuasive communication abilities, active listening, and the capacity to read and comprehend various documents, including policy manuals and safety instructions.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in using computer terminals for job tracking.
  • Business Acumen: Advanced skills in reading blueprints and part drawings, with the ability to extract and apply information effectively. Strong mathematical skills for calculations involving whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

This role requires various physical activities, and reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.

Must be able to stand for extended periods, walk on concrete surfaces, and perform manual tasks such as lifting and moving items weighing up to 100 pounds. Team members must also be able to wear necessary protective equipment.

Work Environment

Team members may encounter fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts. The work environment can be noisy, and surfaces may be hard.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this full-time position ranges from $22.91 to $30.89, with additional benefits.
