Powder Coating Technician Job Description

Tate, Inc. is seeking a skilled Powder Coating Technician to join our team at our new manufacturing facility in Russell County, Virginia.

Job Summary

The Powder Coating Technician will be responsible for performing powder coating operations and applications, as well as operating equipment. This role requires effective cross-functional collaboration with other manufacturing departments, quality, and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality application of powder coatings to fabricated components.
  • Prepare manufactured products for powder coating by blasting and chemically washing off products prior to powder coating.
  • Assist in moving carriages and carts in and out of spray booths.
  • Clean and maintain powder coating guns and equipment.
  • Clean booth thoroughly during each color change.
  • Troubleshoot powder coating equipment.
  • Touch up and rework material, as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by Team Leader or Supervisor as production needs require.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and follow established safety procedures.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions, including Employee Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Manufacturing Operating Procedures (MOPs), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), and Safety Manual.
  • Maintain awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; report all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in powder coating a plus, but not required.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to work in a team environment and interface with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to use various tools and measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, tape measure, dial indicator, and feeler gauges.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and crouch for an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be able to distinguish shades and colors.
  • Must have strong knowledge of material prep and powder application.
  • Must understand powder coating equipment adjustments and maintenance.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel machinery, equipment, or parts and work near moving mechanical parts.
