Job Title: Assistant Store Leader

Job Summary:

The Assistant Store Leader is a key role at QuickChek, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the store in the absence of the Store Leader. This individual will assist in the selection, training, and development of all store Team Members, while also maintaining store standards, reducing inventory costs, and ensuring exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service and tend to customers in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner.
  • Maintain a focus on increasing sales and promoting a fresh, friendly, and clean store image.
  • Demonstrate a proficiency in Food Service Operations and ensure the safety of all customers and Team Members.
  • Recruit and hire new Team Members in the absence of the Store Leader and develop and train Team Members in essential job functions.
  • Enforce and practice all company policies, including loss prevention policies, and delegate, oversee, and ensure the completion of all work assignments.
  • Conduct performance conversations, as needed, and up to termination, if necessary.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve in-stock/delivery issues and document.
  • Ensure compliance of daily CAO counts, pricing accuracy, shelf tags, and sales plan signage, and be 100% in stock on all Center Store products.
  • Order inventory, as needed, to ensure in-stock conditions are met.
  • Check in vendor deliveries and pack out according to company procedure.
  • Periodically check all equipment for proper operation.
  • Recognize Team Members for positive results and ensure execution of QCez checklists.
  • Prepare Cash and Sales Reports and make bank deposits, as required.
  • Verify cash and lottery at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Perform safe checks and balance cash at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Open and close the store, as necessary.
  • Maintain low shrink by reducing waste and spoilage, controlling Team Member, customer, and vendor theft, and ensuring accuracy of paperwork.
  • Cover or provide coverage for assigned Team Member breaks and call-outs.
  • Monitors, closes, and transmits weekly payroll, as needed.
  • Administer McLane Reclamation program, as directed.
  • Ensure execution of displays/shippers, promotional merchandising, planogram resets, and proper product rotation.

Fuel Operations (Fuel Stores ONLY):

  • Ability to manage the fuel operations in the absence of the Fuel Leader.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of environmental requirements and be able to effectively respond to a spill.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Fuel Site Walk Around Checklist.

Additional Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to meet critical weekly/monthly deadlines.
  • Must be a team player and able to communicate effectively with customers and Team Members at various levels within the organization.
  • Must be dependable and have an excellent attendance record.
  • Be an active contributor to team meetings.
  • Ability to train and motivate Team Members.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Flexibility in planned scheduling and ability to work a variety of shifts.
  • Open and honest in communications.
  • Enforce and adhere to proper uniform policy, including name badge, at all times.
  • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards.
  • Effectively operate store equipment including POS, safe, Telxon, and lottery machine.
  • Must possess understanding of budgeting, sales, and gross profit.
  • Prepare reports, as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or college degree.
  • Food service and/or retail management experience.
  • Completion of required training programs and learning activities including Food Service Certification.
  • Serv-Safe certified; maintains certified status.
  • Must have personal vehicle for required banking, safety, and meeting attendance.
  • Ability to maintain QuickChek grooming and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand basic English.
  • Must be alert and attentive; impairment for any reason is not permitted.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
