Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist to join our team at the University of Iowa. As a key member of our medical imaging department, you will be responsible for performing complex radiographic and mammography procedures, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with radiologists to obtain high-quality images.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic and mammography procedures with independent judgment and initiative.
  • Assist radiologists with imaging procedures and invasive procedures utilizing mammography.
  • Complete required continuing education to maintain ARRT and Permit to Practice.
  • Interview patients, record medical history, and assess patient physical state and needs.
  • Operate radiographic imaging equipment, practice radiation safety, and protect patients.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including patient result letters and follow-up letters.
  • Perform a variety of mammographic procedures, using independent judgment to provide quality patient care.
  • Identify, access, and prepare medications as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Provide patient care, including emotional, psychological, and physical needs.
  • Assist in moving patients from transportation mode to x-ray tables.
  • Take radiation safety measures with patients, employees, and self.
  • Register patients according to hospital guidelines.
Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program, plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Advanced Certification in Mammography within nine months of employment.
  • Willingness to travel to outreach clinics throughout the state of Iowa.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare or science-related field.
Senior Diagnostic Imaging SpecialistKey Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history.
  • Perform and document complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • Collaborate to provide healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients.
  • Manage patient care, initiate referrals, and identify expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
  • Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribe therapeutic interventions, including pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and surgical/procedural.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Provide specialty-specific consultation services and facilitate patient transitions between healthcare settings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiation Sciences or other Allied Health Sciences discipline.
  • Extensive (3-5 years) progressively responsible experience in diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or other nationally recognized accreditation organizations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience providing clinical education to students and sonographers and residents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiation Sciences is highly desirable.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Advanced Certification in Mammography.
