Maintenance Mechanic I Job Summary

A Maintenance Mechanic I plays a crucial role in the operation of our manufacturing plant, working alongside Electrical staff to maintain and repair Printing Press equipment, Book Binding equipment, and other machinery. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate various machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders, to manufacture replacement parts for mechanical press and bindery equipment.
  • Assist in the repairs and maintenance of mechanical press and bindery equipment, including troubleshooting and maintaining components.
  • Develop a working knowledge of relay logic and control circuits, as well as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), to effectively troubleshoot and maintain electrical systems.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals to diagnose and repair electrical issues.
  • Use testing equipment to diagnose issues with electrical components and understand the workings of AC/DC motor controls.
  • Maintain mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of field experience preferred
  • Intermediate math and computer skills
  • Associate's degree in Industrial Electronics preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures
Physical Demands:
  • Walking: Must be able to walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven surfaces.
  • Standing: Must be able to stand for up to 11.5 hours/day, 3 to 4 days per week, on a concrete floor.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to frequently lift and carry signatures weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Must be able to occasionally push/pull skids of paper weighing over 100 lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting: Must be able to bend and twist to perform tasks such as working in folders and setting ink.
  • Climbing: Must be able to climb in and out of press equipment as needed.
  • Kneeling: Must be able to perform tasks in a kneeling position for varying lengths of time.
  • Grasping/Reaching: Must be able to reach and grasp signatures of varying thickness and weight.
