Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at Ward County. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service, supporting library operations, and contributing to the development of innovative programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly and helpful service to library users, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct circulation activities, including checking out and returning materials, processing patron requests, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist with material selection and processing, including cataloging and shelving books, CDs, DVDs, and other materials.
  • Support special programming and events, such as author talks, children's storytime, and other community outreach initiatives.
  • Operate a public computer, assisting patrons with basic computer skills and providing technical support as needed.
  • Participate in outreach activities, visiting local schools, community centers, and other organizations to promote library services and resources.
  • Collaborate with library staff to develop and implement new programs and services, ensuring alignment with library goals and objectives.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks, including data entry, record-keeping, and filing.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge, staying up-to-date with best practices in library services and technology.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college-level studies, computer training, and library experience highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing circumstances.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, with the ability to drive a County vehicle as needed.
Working Conditions

This position typically works 9:00am - 2:00pm on Saturdays, with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed. The work environment is generally quiet and comfortable, with minimal exposure to hazards or stressors.
