Job Summary

Paragon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Detention Officer to join our team. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for providing protection and safekeeping of individuals held under the authority of any United States statute.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide security and surveillance services to ensure the safety and well-being of detainees
  • Guard Federal prisoners confined to a medical facility for treatment
  • Escort Federal prisoners to and from local medical facilities for evaluation and treatment by physicians
  • Escort Federal prisoners to and from physician's office, or other areas of the medical facility or hospital, or for treatment, tests, etc.
  • Escort Federal prisoners between Federal and non-Federal detention facilities and the Federal Courthouse for appearance or meetings before the Grand Jury, the Court, or US Attorney, etc.
  • Escort Federal prisoners between detention facilities and/or the Justice Prisoner Alien Transportation System (JPATS) airlift site
  • Provide guard services within Federal Courthouse, Federal buildings, and the USMS cellblock areas
  • Provide security for USMS seized property
Requirements
  • US Citizenship preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years or older
Education and Experience
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of full time law enforcement, corrections officer, or military police experience monitoring detainees and dealing with security matters related to prisoner handling and detention of prisoners on a regular basis
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver's license
  • Possess state license to carry firearms
Competencies
  • Ability to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group settings
  • Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with rules and regulations as they apply to work problems
  • Ability to be an effective team member; to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances; to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization and possess good organizational skills
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service
Working Conditions
  • Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
  • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Required to respond to emergencies
  • May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area
  • May be required to work overtime without advance notice
  • May be required to work rotating shifts
  • Required ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • May be required to utilize skills for keyboarding, basic computer usage and operating controls
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and clients, observe and report incidents, and direct others
