Transportation Planner/GIS Technician

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Planner/GIS Technician to join our team at the Permian Basin MPO. As a key member of our regional transportation planning practice, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining GIS databases, compiling data for reports, and assisting in the preparation of transportation plans and programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile and analyze data for various reports, including demographics, traffic-related data, census information, and other statistics.
  • Develop and maintain GIS databases using ESRI ArcGIS, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data management.
  • Assist in the preparation and compilation of transportation plans and programs, ensuring alignment with MPO goals and objectives.
  • Maintain the MPO GIS files, databases, and spreadsheets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Develop visual aids, such as maps, renderings, diagrams, and charts, to effectively communicate complex planning concepts.
  • Monitor federally and locally funded transportation projects to ensure consistency with MPO plans and programs.
  • Support departmental operations with regular and timely attendance, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Transportation/Urban Planning, Business/Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of GIS training or work experience in municipal or other public/private agency work environment.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid Texas State Driver's License.
Working Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office environment with occasional site visits. Employee will sometimes be required to work outside of business hours, which are Monday-Thursday, 8am-7pm, with some travel involved, while using their own vehicle.
