Radiation Therapist Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Radiation Therapist, you will play a critical role in the cancer management team, working closely with radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and medical physicists to deliver accurate and effective radiation therapy treatments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer external radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist.
  • Assure that patient positioning, treatment equipment orientation, and treatment beam placement conform to treatment specifications.
  • Perform simulations and localization according to established protocols and produce usable images for treatment planning and verification.
  • Prepare and construct equipment, such as immobilization devices, treatment devices, and protection devices.
  • Assist radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and medical physicists in preparing physical and technical aspects of radiation treatment plans.
  • Educate, prepare, and reassure patients and their families about treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
  • Plan and perform procedures for patient treatment and imaging, meeting quality standards of the department.
  • Determine technical charges based on procedure(s) performed and assign appropriate CPT code.
  • Cooperate with others, share ideas, and contribute time to achieve organizational and departmental goals.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of a formal radiation therapy technology program accredited by the Joint Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
  • Licensed by the WV Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners.
  • Board Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
Working Environment:

The Radiation Therapist will work in a large clinical area with interaction with physicians, nurses, dosimetrists, physicists, and support staff. The presence of computers/computer monitors and radiation-producing equipment, including linear accelerators, gamma knife, and HDR, is essential for performing job tasks.
