The incumbent may be temporarily assigned to specialized functions within the agency based on operational requirements. A certified deputy sheriff may be designated as Certified Deputy I, Certified Deputy II, or Certified Deputy III, contingent upon qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:Patrol Duties:
- Uphold law and order while safeguarding lives and property.
- Respond to dispatch calls, investigate incidents, and take necessary actions.
- Conduct security assessments of various locations including businesses and public areas.
- Manage traffic control and enforce traffic laws.
- Issue citations and make arrests for legal violations; prepare incident documentation.
- Provide assistance during emergencies and natural disasters.
- Transport detainees and execute warrants.
Jail Responsibilities:
- Process and secure inmates, ensuring safety and order within the facility.
- Supervise inmate activities and maintain accurate records.
- Transport inmates for external activities and medical needs.
Civil/Warrants Duties:
- Determine appropriate methods for legal service processes.
- Execute court orders and manage property seizures as required.
Community Engagement:
- Foster peace in schools and community settings.
- Investigate incidents, gather evidence, and prepare reports.
- Organize community outreach initiatives aimed at crime reduction.
Court and Transport Duties:
- Ensure security within court facilities and during proceedings.
- Safeguard jurors and manage prisoner transport to court appearances.
Essential Knowledge:
- Familiarity with law enforcement principles, criminal investigation, and public safety protocols.
- Understanding of legal statutes and court procedures related to law enforcement.
Skills Required:
- Proficient in report writing and documentation.
- Strong communication abilities, both verbal and written.
- Capability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and restraining individuals when necessary.
- Must be capable of working in various environments, including potentially hazardous situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in a related field is preferred.
