About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Connecticut. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to our nation's veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist doctors and nurses in the general care and treatment of individuals
  • Measure and administer medications, including insulin injections
  • Document medications using appropriate forms
  • Perform narcotic counts and check for intravenous medications
  • Report changes in individuals to doctors and ensure restraints are applied correctly
  • Transcribe doctors' medication orders and dispense certain medications in their absence
  • Apply topical medication, take and chart temperatures, pulses, and respirations, and perform simple nursing treatments
  • Monitor general individual needs, including personal hygiene, and report on individual conditions and behavior
  • Keep the unit safe and healthy, administer enemas or suppositories, and perform Foley catheterization care
  • Orient individuals concerning medications and their use, and may perform emergency first aid
  • May drive individuals to necessary appointments or outings
Requirements
  • License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing
  • Considerable interpersonal skills, oral communication, and written skills
  • Ability to keep records and lead staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience following State Department of Public Health regulations
  • Experience documenting medical information on an electronic medical record system
  • Experience providing nursing services to patients with dementia
  • Experience working with the veteran population
  • Experience deescalating and calming clients/patients
