Role Summary:
The Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician II plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists by preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All activities are conducted under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and compounds medications, including sterile products, oral and topical medications, and controlled substances, as authorized by a physician and under pharmacist supervision.
2. Delivers and exchanges medications to designated patient areas and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
3. Accurately documents pharmaceutical activities, including patient billing and quality control requirements, utilizing both automated and manual systems.
4. Responds to customer inquiries regarding pharmacy services, including medication delivery and drug information.
5. Operates automated dispensing technology to ensure the correct medications are supplied according to orders from pharmacists and physicians.
6. Manages inventory by ordering, receiving, restocking, and rotating supplies, while ensuring expiration date compliance.
7. Assists in training new staff members, providing education on job-specific tasks.
8. Participates in process improvement initiatives.
9. Conducts regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including controlled substance inventories and necessary documentation.
Education Requirements:
● High school diploma or GED; completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Registration with the relevant state board of pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA is required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Previous experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated proficiency in pharmacy operations and a commitment to patient care.
