Tooling Specialist

At Shiloh Industries, we are seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining dies in a production-ready status at all times, capable of producing quality stampings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges and machinists hand tools.
• Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
• Compute dimensions, plan layout and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
• Measure, mark and scribe metal stock for machining.
• Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper and grinder to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
• Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on surface plate or work table.
• Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
• Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances, as well as, heat treats tools or parts.
• Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
• Complete preventive maintenance work assignments to include work orders.
Requirements:
• Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school.
• 5 years in field experience and Journeyman's Certification.
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Advanced mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
• Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factory analysis.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
