Position Overview

The Oncology Registered Nurse plays a vital role in delivering exceptional nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough assessments and gathers relevant data regarding the patient's health status to identify diagnoses or issues.
  • Accurately documents patient assessments and updates in the medical records in a timely manner.
  • Provides systematic communication of patient information to other healthcare providers.
  • Coordinates the delivery of care, utilizing available resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in IV therapy and hydration techniques.
  • Implements strategies to foster a safe and healthy environment for patients.
  • Evaluates patient progress and documents outcomes effectively.
  • Develops individualized care plans and communicates expected interventions and outcomes with patients, families, and team members.
  • Executes care plans safely and appropriately in a timely manner.
  • Manages patient care with a comprehensive understanding of cancer, treatment modalities, and potential side effects.
  • Applies evidence-based practices to enhance the quality of care provided.
  • Collaborates closely with experienced clinicians for guidance and mentorship.
  • In Infusion/Treatment Departments: demonstrates expertise in chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood product administration.
  • In Radiation Oncology Departments: possesses knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including management of side effects and symptoms, and effectively triages patients to meet their care needs.
  • Must be capable of performing the clinical competencies required for the assigned unit or department.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; must complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within five years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • At least one year of experience in medical-surgical or acute care settings.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in oncology nursing.

Required Licensure and Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days of hire.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice; must obtain any additional state licenses as required.
  • Staff hired prior to the specified date must obtain a multistate RN license by the next renewal period.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification preferred for Infusion/Treatment departments.
