Job Overview

Position Summary:

As an Advanced CNC Horizontal Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating complex, proven, or new components. This role may involve assisting the programmer, department lead, or supervisor in the creation of innovative processes. This position operates on a swing shift schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members as evaluated by peers.
  • Interpret and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and relevant technical documentation.
  • Engage in the quotation process and assist in process development as necessary.
  • Program, set up, and manage all aspects of assigned tasks.
  • Design and develop fixtures as required, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Receive daily directives from the Production Supervisor and organize work accordingly using the Shop Floor Control System.
  • Consistently meet job standard times and communicate with the lead or supervisor if not achieved.
  • Consult with Team Leaders and Programmers regarding drawings, sketches, and design data to ascertain dimensions and configurations of tool paths.
  • Familiarize yourself with Rotary and Indexing capabilities applicable to all Machine Centers.
  • Utilize machine controls to optimize feeds and speeds for maximum productivity.
  • Enhance processes to achieve peak efficiency.
  • Document and save updated programs, files, and images.
  • Log in and out of operations according to the work order sequence number.
  • Inspect parts to verify compliance with blueprint specifications using approved inspection methods.
  • Employ Standard Measurement Instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and more to assess manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Deburr work in progress.
  • Share expertise with colleagues and collaborate in teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and conduct quality assurance checks.
  • Achieve departmental goals and objectives promptly.
  • Support the company's Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, as well as 5S implementation and maintenance.
  • Interact with team members and other departments professionally.
  • Comply with the company's ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 certification requirements.
  • Adhere to safety standards and OSHA regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Machine Tool Technology is preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of relevant work experience.
  • Completion of five years of trade school, vocational education, or a four-year formal apprenticeship.
  • Thorough understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of accepted inspection practices.
  • Proficient in CNC programming and G&M code.
  • Familiarity with probe and tool presetting.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating CNC machines.
  • Ability to read blueprints for accuracy in part production.
  • Basic proficiency in the English language.
  • Knowledge of shop safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity for reading machine dials, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Auditory ability to monitor machine sounds for diagnosis and corrective action.
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, reaching overhead, and bending.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to high noise levels from machinery.
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine components.
  • Inhalation of fumes, dust, and mist.
  • Skin contact with oils and cutting fluids.
