About the Role

The Pharmacist II plays a crucial role in the Pharmacy Operations team at Cardinal Health. This position is responsible for adjusting and dispensing medication, ensuring the compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verifying orders using the pharmacy information system
  • Making adjustments according to protocols for a given medication
  • Providing patient education
  • Supervising and directing pharmacy support personnel
  • Facilitating availability of first doses and specialty items
  • Maintaining adequate medication supplies
  • Completing monthly controlled substances audits and quality assessment rounds
  • Maintaining and enforcing the documentation and security of narcotic medications
  • Reviewing medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness
  • Providing pharmacokinetic monitoring of patients receiving specific drugs
  • Ensuring that serum concentrations are drawn
  • Monitoring parental nutrition
  • Observing for adverse drug reactions
  • Documenting all medication incidents within the reporting module
  • Providing medication counseling to patients
  • Providing drug information to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals
  • Documenting interventions with healthcare personnel related to drug therapy
  • Performing drug utilization evaluations on medications
  • Overseeing activities of medication administration nurses
  • Participating in patient care rounds
  • Providing in-service education to hospital healthcare professionals
  • Repacking bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately
  • Demonstrating competency in automated dispensing equipment
  • Adhering to established processes and procedures
  • Maintaining security and confidentiality of passwords
  • Attending and participating in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs
  • Completing timely and maintaining all required training and education

Requirements

  • Pharmacy Degree (B.S. or PharmD)
  • Must be a "good standing" licensed Pharmacist in the state of Massachusetts
  • Prior Hospital or Long-Term Care experience preferred
  • Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth of Massachusetts pharmacy law when ordering and handling medications
  • Good working knowledge of generic and trade names of medications
  • Flexibility to work various shifts
