Overview:

As a Fiber Optic Splicer, you'll need to be skilled in splicing, have a grasp of engineering and splicing drawings, and carry out tasks related to fiber systems' construction and upgrades. Your responsibilities will include terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables to ensure maximum operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform fiber optic cable splicing using fusion, mass fusion, and mechanical techniques, including terminating different connectors.
  • Properly splice fiber enclosures and termination panels for both aerial and underground applications, ensuring grounding, bonding, isolation, storage, and sealing.
  • Install fiber distribution panels, relay racks, or cabinets along with associated hardware and electronics in various sites.
  • Execute large fiber count cuts efficiently during maintenance windows to minimize network downtime.
  • Conduct fiber audits to assess existing fiber plant characteristics, document findings, and update records.
  • Conduct testing using various equipment, interpret data, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accurate splicing schematics.
  • Engage in aerial and underground construction activities, such as installing fiber, completing pole transfers, and cable pulling.
  • Handle traffic control flagging duties when necessary and maintain company assets in optimal condition.
  • Ensure safety measures are followed at job sites and oversee project activities to meet safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Mentor, train, direct, and supervise associates on-site in coordination with the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing fiber optic networks.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Flexible to work indoors and outdoors, day, night, and overnight shifts as required.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.

Supplemental Pay:

  • Bonus pay

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs if needed.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and in all weather conditions.
