Medical Assistant

Join our team at Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic P.A. as a Medical Assistant. In this role, you will provide initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services, assist with direct patient care, and perform specialized medical procedures of a routine nature.
Key Responsibilities:- Collect health history and vital sign data and enter into electronic patient records accurately and thoroughly.
- Maintain accurate documentation data in electronic patient records.
- Obtain pertinent labs, x-rays, and other tests as needed by the provider to assist with patient care.
- Ensure patient charts are complete, including previous office visit dictations and labs.
- Assist with the check-in process for I-131 patients, ensuring proper correspondence has been signed and noted in patient charts.
- Scan exam rooms with a scintillation probe to ensure they are free of radiation.
- Direct patient flow in accordance with provider schedules and patient appointments.
- Monitor patient wait times and communicate them to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Maintain a well-organized work area and assigned examination rooms, including apportioning supplies and surface cleaning.
- Assist with processing laboratory reports, including clarifying lab orders made by providers and forwarding results to patients in a timely fashion.
- Assist providers with fax communications to other providers and facilities.
- At the direction of providers, assist in the provision of sample medication or prescriptions and documentation of such.
- Teach and demonstrate proper use of selected glucometer devices to patients and their families at provider request.
- Perform EKG testing in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist providers with Thyroid Biopsies, including setting up supplies, shipping specimens, and appending proper correspondence.
- Order supplies for Thyroid Biopsies, including alcohol-filled specimen containers, slides, plastic slide transport containers, pathology requisition slips, and biohazard bags.
- Assist providers with entering patient data into Thyroid sonogram machines.
- Complete job functions within allotted time (i.e., 8-hour shift).
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification.
- 1-2 years of experience not required.
- Ability to collect standard vital signs.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous manner, friendly tone, and intelligible speech at all times.
- Possess basic customer service skills and phone etiquette.
- Possess basic typing and Windows computer skills.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
- Moderate physical activity, including handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four hours per day.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
