Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid medical license to practice in New York State and certification from a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in their specialty. Additionally, eligibility for appointment requires that candidates are not listed as excluded individuals or entities on any Federal or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Medical Specialist, your primary role will involve diagnosing and treating patients within your area of expertise. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for patients.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Developing or revising medical policies and procedures to enhance quality care.
  • Reviewing laboratory results, specialty consultations, and discharge summaries to assist treatment teams.
  • Coordinating care with hospital and rehabilitation facility providers to ensure continuity.
  • Approving discharge summaries for residents returning to group homes.
  • Assessing medical information for new admissions to ensure proper care.
  • Communicating medical issues with team members and participating in meetings.
  • Engaging with family members and advocates to explain medical or treatment matters.
  • Providing urgent prescription renewals when necessary.
  • Contributing as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and participating in committees to improve service outcomes.

Additional Requirements:
  • Providing after-hours and weekend on-call medical consultations on a rotating basis.
  • Offering primary medical care coverage in transitional home settings when required.
  • Supporting Family Care Program and Community Mental Health Nurses with medical expertise.
  • Assisting with physician coverage in sister regions as needed.
