Key Responsibilities:
The Cheese Retail Specialist is responsible for assisting customer employees in establishing and maintaining an internal cheese shop.
This role involves ordering products for initial setup and display, managing orders for delivery, and arranging display cases by cutting, wrapping, pricing, and merchandising cheese products.
The Specialist will provide support to store customers, offering recommendations for cheese pairings, portion sizes, and other food accompaniments while training customer employees on all aspects of cheese handling.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver outstanding customer service while interacting with store management, staff, and the public, adhering to customer policies and DPI standards.
- Restock, reset, and merchandise cheese products to enhance visibility and sales in customer stores, following best practices; this includes re/wrapping and packaging cheese items.
- Train customer personnel in all aspects of cheese handling.
- Provide sales support and training to customer sales teams, assisting clients with product recommendations and pairing suggestions based on specialized cheese knowledge.
- Adhere to established health, sanitation, and safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize knives and cutters to resize cheese products for repackaging or aesthetic purposes.
- Inspect products for quality using visual and olfactory assessments.
- Transport products using carts or pallet jacks.
- Communicate with DPI personnel regarding product discrepancies and merchandising needs.
- Plan and execute daily schedules based on assigned customer locations, managing timelines to meet customer and DPI requirements.
- Unpack vendor goods and recycle packaging materials.
- Utilize electronic communication tools to interact with DPI team members and maintain electronic timekeeping.
- Drive to various customer locations as required.
- Participate in training and meetings to uphold customer and DPI standards.
- Create and submit orders for product replenishment in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of transmission.
- Apply knowledge of temperature-sensitive protocols when transporting cheese products.
Additional Duties:
- Maintain a clean and organized personal workspace.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned to achieve company objectives and adapt to evolving business needs.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in written and spoken English, along with basic math skills, is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is essential. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience in service deli knowledge, particularly with cheese and perishable goods. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.
The ability to work independently or collaboratively with customer employees while demonstrating excellent communication and customer service skills is essential.
Work Environment:
The position is primarily indoors, with exposure to varying temperatures from different product climates (dry and cold). The employee may also experience temperature variations while traveling within the assigned geographical area.
Work Schedule:
This role typically involves a 5-day work week, 8 hours per day. Start times may vary, and work hours are subject to change based on business needs. Overtime, holiday, or weekend work may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
This position requires medium physical exertion, with the ability to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally.
Constant standing and walking are necessary, along with frequent use of hands for cutting, wrapping, and handling products.
Employees must adhere to health and safety protocols and maintain compliance with grooming, hygiene, and dress code standards.
Effective time management and the ability to handle multiple competing demands while maintaining composure in high-pressure situations are crucial.
