Fleet Mechanic II Job DescriptionJob Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic II to join our team at the City of Flint, MI. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing advanced repairs and maintenance on heavy motorized equipment, trucks, and fire trucks.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Repair and Maintenance: Perform advanced repairs and maintenance on heavy motorized equipment, trucks, and fire trucks, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical defects in heavy equipment and trucks, and determine parts and adjustments necessary to put equipment into proper operating condition.
  • Engine and Transmission Repairs: Repair and rebuild engines, transmissions, and other major components of heavy equipment and trucks.
  • Heavy Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, and other scheduled services.
  • Shop Operations: Maintain a clean and safe work environment, and assist in the upkeep of shop equipment and tools.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience performing heavy equipment and mechanical repairs.
  • Certifications: Possession of a valid State of Michigan CDL with class B endorsement or higher, and certification as a Specialty Mechanic in all categories of heavy-duty truck repair.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, with a focus on automotive technology or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, excellent diagnostic skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, and other hazards. The successful candidate must be able to work in a safe and efficient manner, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
