Job Summary

As a key member of our team, the Director of Purchasing will be responsible for managing the purchasing of supplies and products used at our location. This includes formulating an approved vendors list, purchasing and approving payment of items following established procedures, and ensuring compliance with all brand-established systems and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate and provide accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
  • Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data.
  • Ensure compliance with all brand-established systems and procedures.
  • Create a Purchase Requisition/Purchase Order System for the property and ensure employees are trained on this system.
  • Conduct inventories.
  • Ensure accurate administration of all invoices and adhere to proper bookkeeping procedures.
  • Maintain operations by developing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure inspection of all deliveries to verify accuracy and quality of product.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards.
  • Implement and enforce all control procedures for property goods entering through the purchasing/receiving areas.
  • Ensure staff is properly trained regarding procedures, sanitation, equipment handling and chemical usage.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitary procedures.
  • Maintain inventory controls for proper levels, dating, rotation, requisitions etc.
  • Supervise operations of Purchasing Department.
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocate sound financial/business decision making; demonstrate honesty/integrity; lead by example.
  • Ensure employees understand expectations and parameters.
  • Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees and ensure employees do the same within the team.
  • Solicit employee feedback and use an “open door policy.”
  • Support a departmental orientation program for employees to receive the appropriate new hiring training to successfully perform their job.
  • Review employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
  • Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
  • Use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Keep up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of budgets, operating statements and payroll progress reports as needed to maintain financial management of the department.
  • Submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines.
  • Ensure profits and losses are documented accurately.
  • Achieve and exceed goals including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Monitor all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued.
  • Manage to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Manage department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Keep departments informed by confirming and clarifying purchase orders or contracts.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Inform and/or update the executives, the peers and the subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner.

Marriott International offers a competitive salary range of $85,000 to $106,000 annually, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including a bonus program, comprehensive health care benefits, 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match, employee stock purchase plan at 15% discount, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, group disability insurance, travel discounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, health savings account (except for positions based out of or performed in Hawaii), flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits, other life and work wellness benefits, and may include other incentives such as stock awards and deferred compensation plans.
