The Research Scientist will spearhead, design, and collaborate on innovative conservation research initiatives. Working closely with our Conservation Research team, this position will also engage with a diverse array of stakeholders, including volunteers, students, and external partners from various sectors such as tribal, academic, and governmental organizations.
Key Responsibilities:This role involves advancing the conservation research agenda under the guidance of the Senior Conservation Research Manager. Key responsibilities include:
Research and Data Analysis- Lead and execute significant research projects aligned with our mission and conservation priorities.
- Develop tailored research methodologies that leverage our unique organizational strengths.
- Gather and analyze data to address pertinent research inquiries.
- Utilize data management and analysis software to identify key trends.
- Communicate findings effectively to various audiences, including academic and community stakeholders.
- Support collaborative research efforts led by team members to ensure project continuity and success.
- Enhance internal collaboration across departments to foster a cohesive research environment.
- Build and maintain external partnerships to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Organize and lead workshops and symposiums to promote community engagement and knowledge exchange.
- Publish research findings in both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed platforms and present at relevant forums.
- Engage in public speaking opportunities to disseminate research insights.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications teams to create impactful communication materials.
- Oversee and mentor research staff and volunteers.
- Support the professional development of team members in conservation research.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols in all research activities.
- Lead fundraising initiatives to secure support for ongoing and new research projects, including proposal and budget preparation.
- Perform additional duties as required.
We welcome diverse educational backgrounds and experiences to fulfill the role's requirements:
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience and education, typically including a Master's degree and three years of research experience or a Ph.D.
- Proven track record in developing and managing research projects.
- Exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to varied audiences.
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Strong organizational abilities and a commitment to meeting project deadlines.
- Self-driven and proactive in seeking guidance when necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity for team collaboration.
- Must possess or be eligible for a Washington State Driver's License.
- Experience navigating complex research environments to influence policy.
- Demonstrated involvement in multicultural and multilingual communities.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in diverse environmental settings.
- Physical stamina to remain active for extended periods.
- Willingness to travel for fieldwork and conferences as needed.
Compensation: $32-$33.17 per hour
