Position Overview


The Asset Management & Systems Engineering Department is in search of a driven Power Systems Engineer to join our team. In this capacity, the selected candidate will assist in the formulation of lifecycle asset management strategies for electrical systems, conduct design evaluations, generate electrical specifications, perform inspections, provide technical guidance for electrical construction, and monitor asset performance while analyzing failures.

This role encompasses support for all Sandia National Labs locations.


Key Responsibilities

On any given day, you may be tasked with:

  • Creating, updating, and executing technical specifications for the design of low voltage and primary distribution electrical systems.
  • Investigating and testing innovative techniques and equipment to enhance operations and conserve energy.
  • Conducting compliance assessments and devising solutions for any discrepancies.
  • Evaluating the condition of existing systems and infrastructure, providing recommendations for enhancements.
  • Employing reliability-centered maintenance strategies to bolster system reliability.
  • Performing root-cause analyses to identify the origins of electrical system failures.
  • Collaborating with maintenance personnel on low-to-medium voltage distribution systems.

The selected candidate will have the flexibility to work both onsite and remotely, but must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the designated work location.


Compensation


The estimated salary range for this position is $95,400 - $185,700. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as any applicable geographic salary differentials.


Qualifications Required


A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution along with 8 years of relevant experience in low voltage electrical system design, or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 4 years of the aforementioned experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.


Qualifications Desired


Demonstrated understanding of maintenance requirements for low voltage system components, including transformers, relays, switches, and distribution feeders.

Familiarity with the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


About Our Team


The Asset Management & Systems Engineering Department is tasked with lifecycle asset management planning for Sandia's real property assets, focusing on developing maintenance strategies through Reliability-Centered Maintenance principles.

We collaborate with Facilities Asset Managers and Maintenance teams on site-wide infrastructure issues requiring comprehensive solutions.


Security Clearance


Sandia is mandated by the DOE to conduct pre-employment drug tests and background checks, which include reference checks, credit history, and verification of employment and education.

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which necessitates U.S. citizenship.
