Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at the Young Mens Christian Association of Rochester. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and general maintenance of our facility.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain all areas of the facility, including bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other assigned areas.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and tasks as directed by the Buildings & Grounds Director.
  • Assist other departments with setup for meetings, special events, and other activities.
  • During shutdown periods, be available to work if needed.
  • Strip and polish floors, clean carpets, and perform other restorative cleaning activities.
  • Empty and clean trash containers.
  • Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.
  • Clear snow and salt sidewalks in inclement weather or as needed.
  • Report any damage or needed repairs to equipment, property, etc. to the supervisor.
  • Use all cleaning supplies in the proper and efficient manner.
  • Keep all cleaning closets clean and uncluttered during scheduled shifts.
  • Interact with staff, members, and the general public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist in special projects at the branch or other Association facilities.
  • Respond to emergencies appropriately in accordance with level of training and circumstances.
  • Attend all mandatory training and meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Candidate must be a minimum of 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • This position requires strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently.
  • The candidate must have good communication skills and demonstrate good interaction skills with people.
  • Individuals need experience or be able to comprehend general cleaning, disinfection, hard floor care, carpet care, wood floor care, and related equipment operation and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain standing and moving for extended periods of time.
  • Indoors and outdoors in normal environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
  • Mobility within the building, including movement from floor to floor and outside the building.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. on a repetitive basis.
  • May handle human body fluids and chemicals as part of daily operational duties.
