Job Description:
Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join its team at its facility located in Montgomery, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesizing Voice of Customer and Marketing data to create high-value, innovative, efficient, and cost-effective work tool designs for the Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) platforms that serve customers worldwide in various applications.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will design control and product development responsibility for the existing MWL bucket, fork, and material handling arm portfolios, as well as new ones developed through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. You will support downstream global partners and resolve engineering design issues for the end customer.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing work tools for MWL platforms
  • Leading and collaborating across functional groups in the design, development, and maintenance of MWL/heavy equipment structural systems
  • Ensuring design meets technical, financial, and timeline requirements
  • Supporting the team through machine and system level virtual product development simulations

Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace, Chemical, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field and 6 years of engineering experience, including product development or a related occupation.

Alternatively, the employer will accept a master's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace, Chemical, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field and 3 years of engineering experience, including product development or a related occupation.


Additionally, the applicant must have:
  • Experience with Creo and Creo Simulate or similar CAE package
  • Fabricated structures design and analysis experience
  • Bill of Material (BoM) structures and associated engineering releasing systems experience
  • Kinematic analysis, measured data analysis, and engineering releasing systems experience
