FABLAB Technician Assistant

Job Summary:
The FABLAB Technician Assistant supports the design and business operations of the FABLAB at Mott Community College. This role involves hands-on work with design software, assisting clients with product development, and supporting business functions related to the lab's operation.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Prototyping:
Assist clients with the design and development of prototypes using CAD software and other design tools.
Operate and maintain FABLAB equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and other fabrication tools.
Provide technical support and training to clients on the use of design and prototyping software.

Client Support and Interaction:
Work closely with clients to understand their needs and guide them through the product development process.
Offer consultations to clients on material selection, manufacturing processes, and design optimization.
Manage client project timelines to ensure timely completion and delivery of prototypes.

Business Operations:
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the FABLAB, including tracking usage, managing inventory, and ensuring proper billing of services.
Support the marketing and outreach efforts to attract new clients to the FABLAB.
Prepare reports on FABLAB activities, including client interactions and revenue generation.

Maintenance and Safety:
Perform regular maintenance on all FABLAB equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Enforce safety protocols within the lab, ensuring all clients and staff adhere to guidelines.
Coordinate with external vendors for the repair and servicing of equipment as needed.

Collaboration and Training:
Collaborate with the FABLAB Director and other staff to develop new programs and services that meet client needs.
Provide workshops and training sessions on FABLAB tools and software for clients and staff.
Support the FABLAB Director in expanding the lab's offerings to align with the strategic goals of the college.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:
Associate's degree in a technical field such as engineering, design, or a related area; relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Proficiency in CAD software and experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and other fabrication technologies.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse clients.

Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience in a maker space, fabrication lab, or similar environment.
Knowledge of business operations, including client management and billing processes.
Experience in developing and delivering training or workshops.
