About the Role
The Dynamic Compression Sector at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Experimental Physicist to join their team. This individual will work with scientists and engineers to operate and maintain the 100-Joule laser system, conduct state-of-the-art scientific experiments, and ensure optimal performance of the experimental facilities.

Job Description
As an Experimental Physicist, you will be responsible for participating in the operation of the 100-Joule laser, contributing to the design and conduct of laser-shock research activities, and working with scientific users. You will also be expected to document and maintain safe operating procedures related to the laser and its control areas. Additionally, you will assist DCS users in preparing for experiments by providing guidelines for experimental design, personnel safety, and equipment operating procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the 100-Joule laser system for laser-shock research activities.
  • Contribute to the design and conduct of laser-shock experiments.
  • Work with scientific users to prepare for experiments.
  • Document and maintain safe operating procedures related to the laser and its control areas.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need a Ph.D. degree in Physics or a related field, strong hands-on ability with nonlinear optical systems and diagnostic equipment, and excellent communication skills. You should also be able to work independently and as part of a team, possess critical thinking and good judgment, and have a clear sense of purpose.

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid sick and vacation leave, paid holidays, medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, retirement plans, and more. Located in Lemont, IL, our office offers a unique blend of urban and natural environments, surrounded by greenery and outdoor activities.
