Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Counselor I to join our team at Fairfax County, VA. As a Probation Counselor I, you will play a critical role in providing direct care to a majority male resident population, ensuring their safety and well-being while in our custody.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide in-depth counseling to detainees on topics such as substance abuse, crisis intervention, mental health, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct group and individual sessions to help ease detainees' adjustment anxieties.
  • Supervise residents during unit activities, health, recreation, and in the school program.
  • Perform security checks, wake-up and bedtime procedures, showering and hygiene functions, and unit housekeeping.
  • Write behavioral observations and disciplinary reports.
  • Provide orientation of residents to the program.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in social/behavioral sciences, law enforcement, or education.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, Handle With Care, and Medication Management.
  • Ability to physically restrain acting out residents.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One or more years of prior experience working in a secure facility for juveniles.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather and/or emergencies.
