Job Title: Lifeguard Substitute

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard Substitute to join our team at the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities. As a Lifeguard Substitute, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of our patrons in the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Enforce rules and regulations regarding safe and proper use of the Nichols Therapy Pool.
  • Keep the pool, pool deck, and locker rooms clean to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning duties.
  • Ensure the pool environment is set up appropriately to match the posted pool schedule and/or special events.
  • Maintain pool preventative maintenance to ensure safe swimming conditions.
  • Check pool chemicals, equipment, and water.
  • Test the water in the pool itself and not water from the mechanical room.
  • Document the levels of chlorine, pH, air temperature, water clarity, and water temperature on weekends.
  • Ensure the circulating pump and the chlorine pump are functioning properly.
  • Report any conditions outside of normal ranges to Maintenance on-call.
  • Refer to posted ranges as well as the Nichols Therapy Pool manual.
  • Perform duties such as rotating shifts, working weekends, working evenings, and maintaining pool grounds by removing litter and safety hazards.
  • Between pool parties and at the end of the day, remove garbage, mop up spills, and perform a quick general cleaning.
  • Ensure doors are locked.
Requirements:
  • Must have or be able to obtain current, valid lifeguard certification issued from American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Associates, or Boy Scouts of America.
  • Must have a working permit for every minor 16 through 17 years of age.
  • Must have the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to move individuals who are receiving services, including adults and children, in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move office supplies, materials, and equipment required for day-to-day operations.
  • Must maintain a current driver's license in your residing state for the purpose of transporting individuals who are receiving services and/or operation of a Board-owned vehicle.
Working Conditions:
  1. Must be 18 years old.
  2. Successful completion of general orientation.
  3. Receipt of seven acceptable background checks required by ORC & OAC 5123.
  4. Must obtain and maintain any training, licenses, registration, or certification mandated by the Board and the State of Ohio.
  5. Must have a medical examination and a one-step PPD test to determine fitness for duty prior to providing direct care service or within 30 days of employment, whichever comes first.
  6. Possess/maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record (if required for position) per Board guidelines.
  7. Receipt of acceptable criminal background report from Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) and county sheriff's office of permanent address before starting position as required by ORC and/or OAC.
