Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Observer to join our team at UMass Memorial Health. As a Patient Observer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain good human relations skills, introducing yourself to patients and engaging in eye contact.
  • Consistently display a respectful, empathetic, and caring attitude towards patients and their family members.
  • Monitor patients for suicidal and/or violent behavior, staying in close proximity and keeping them in your visual field at all times.
  • Ensure patient safety at all times, including while in the bathroom and when transported to other departments.
  • Monitor visitors to ensure no unsafe materials are shared with patients.
  • Maintain 15-minute checks with documentation, unless otherwise directed.
  • Follow the directions of the nurse in charge and transport patients if directed.
  • Perform other ancillary activities as directed by the nursing supervisor, such as making beds in the ED or stocking.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous position held in a healthcare setting preferred.
