Job Summary

The Elizabeth Seton Children's organization is seeking a highly skilled Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for promoting a therapeutic environment for all residents by assessing recreational preferences, creating and implementing innovative group and individualized recreation programming, maintaining timely documentation, and enhancing quality of life through individualized person-centered interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Plan and lead group and individual activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain and record quarterly and annual progress reports, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of resident progress.
  • Statistics and Data Management: Keep daily statistics and maintain accurate records of resident participation and engagement.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Complete initial resident assessments to identify recreational preferences and develop personalized plans.
  • Event Planning: Assist in decorating the facility for holidays and events, and participate in the selection, planning, and implementation of special events.
  • Supply Management: Maintain supplies in an orderly and safe manner, and assist in the selection and ordering of supplies.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Attend plan of care and physiatry meetings, and participate in in-service training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Maintain a flexible work schedule to assist in needed situations or emergencies, and be willing to perform any duties relevant to the function of the department.
  • Training and Development: As assigned by supervisor, act as an instructor for recreation students and provide necessary supervision and hands-on experience to complete fieldwork assignments.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy.
  • Certification: Certification in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a related field, with a preference for experience working with physically and cognitively challenged children.
