We are seeking a Chemist I to join our team in Crete, IL, USA. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing samples using various techniques, including HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA. A basic knowledge of instrumentation and theory is essential, as well as a general knowledge of chemistry to perform analyses.

Responsibilities

Analyze samples using HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA techniques
Ensure proper analysis methods are conducted on the appropriate samples
Maintain chemistry quality control records and procedures for each test
Extract desired components from samples using distillation, solvent extraction, and acid digestion
Calculate the concentration of components present in samples and post results
Prepare standards or reagents needed for analysis procedures
Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete job responsibilities
Maintain a clean laboratory by washing countertops, sweeping floors, storing analysis materials, etc.
Initiate and investigate customer complaints and non-conformances
Review batches and respond to out of specification results or questionable data
Maintain equipment records in appropriate software systems

Requirements

Associate's degree required, Bachelor's preferred
One to two years of experience in a laboratory setting
General knowledge of chemistry to perform analyses
Basic knowledge of instrumentation and theory, including HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA
Manual dexterity to pipet samples where required
Analytical skills necessary for completion of tasks within the department

Work Environment

The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment, such as gloves, laboratory coats, and eyeglasses, may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds is necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variations in shades of colors.
