We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Oncology practice at Sparrow Health System. As a key member of our team, you will provide professional nursing services and intravenous chemotherapy and chemotherapy infusions to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care under established protocols and under the supervision and direction of a physician.
- Plan, implement, direct, delegate and evaluate patient care throughout the department.
- Assist physicians during procedures.
- Monitor patients per protocol.
- Initiate appropriate nursing care and assists with medical care.
- Obtain venous access via peripheral vein, tunneled catheter, and/or implanted port.
- Administer chemotherapy via appropriate routes.
- Provide patient and family teaching related to Oncology procedures, surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, lab and diagnostic procedures, and symptom management.
- Document patient care according to policy.
- Maintain appropriate and accurate written record of patient interactions, including telephone messages.
- Schedule appropriate lab/diagnostic procedures.
- Share relevant information concerning the patient's condition with the physician, manager, and other medical staff, as appropriate and indicated to ensure continuity of care.
- Coordinate care with the individual patient, family and other health care providers as necessary.
- Communicate with physicians and assists with follow-up on abnormal laboratory and diagnostic test results.
- Interact with pharmacists to order prescriptions.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and environmental safety.
- Assume preceptor role for new associates and/or students.
- Maintain professional and practice standards by participating in in-services, staff meetings, and educational opportunities including committee involvement.
- Assist in developing and implementing quality control and practice policies.
- Work closely with the Department Manager to assess office needs and workflow improvement projects.
- Assist with special projects as required by practice.
- Currently Licensed with the State of Michigan to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
- Chemotherapy administration certification within 60 days of hire.
- ONS Certification preferred.
- Minimum of one year critical care nursing experience.
- One year Chemotherapy administration experience preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
