Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Special Services will provide leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services. This role will assist the superintendent in providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Assist in determining types of services needed by the schools and the district's ancillary programs, and make recommendations.
  • Report on the status of district programs and services at the request of the superintendent.
  • Prepare drafts of needed Board policies and administrative rules for the superintendent's review and action.
  • Play a significant leadership role in program development and in-service education for the professional staff in their program area.
  • Serve as a resource person to all professional staff in the district upon assignment by the superintendent.
  • Maintain liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.
  • Establish necessary procedures for referral and cooperative planning with other agencies, both local and state, that provide services to children.
  • Communicate to the superintendent the requirements and needs of the district as perceived by staff members.
  • Prepare state reports and claims as required.
  • Play a significant leadership role in fostering professional growth and building of staff morale throughout the district.
  • Plan and direct a program for the best delivery of services for students who qualify for special education under IDEA.
  • Ensure district compliance with the IDEA federal regulations and ensure compliance with the Missouri State Plan.
  • Maintain records for special education students.
  • Report data to the DESE pertaining to special education students.
  • Monitor the assignments of district non-certificated para professionals, district certificated DHH interpreters, district contracted staff.
  • Evaluate (in conjunction with building principals) district process coordinators, the district school psychologist.
  • Organize the district professional development for para professionals.
  • Plan and monitor the Medicaid administrative claiming contracted program.
  • Plan and monitor the district direct billing contracted program.
  • Provide professional development for district process coordinators.
  • Assign and monitor out-of-district contractual placements.
Terms of Employment:
The Assistant Director of Special Services will be hired for a twelve (12) month position. The salary and work year will be established annually by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
