Job Summary

As a Respiratory Therapist at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems, you will play a critical role in providing advanced respiratory care to patients across the lifespan. This position requires a high level of expertise in mechanical ventilation, airway management, and respiratory care modalities. You will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation, including CPAP and BiPAP
  • Perform respiratory care assessments, interventions, and teaching for patients, families, caregivers, and students
  • Document equipment and patient assessments, consultation, clinical notes, and plan of care
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, continuing education, and research opportunities
  • Perform shift team leader role in the supervisor's absence, if applicable
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program (or combination of education and experience)
  • Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist, Current registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/CRT
  • Experience: New graduate or prior work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/CRT
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent and intense customer interactions. You will be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, and limited hazardous substances or body fluids. You must be able to adapt to frequent change and handle multiple priorities.
