Job Summary

This is a nursing/therapeutic support role that involves implementing treatment plans developed by professional staff. The work typically involves caring for one or more clients/patients/residents experiencing acute or chronic disabilities, including physical, mental, and developmental disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides mentoring and orientation for newly hired or less experienced staff to ensure assignments are completed.
  • Leads individual and group therapeutic processes, including reality orientation, sensory stimulation, range of motion exercise, and application of splints/braces.
  • Participates on an interdisciplinary care team, providing information about the individual's overall physical condition, abilities, and behavioral characteristics.
  • Ensures aseptic integrity of feeding, catheter, and respiratory tubes/devices while assisting individuals with personal hygiene.
  • Monitors and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and nutritional intake/output, and alerts professional staff to significant physical or behavioral changes.
  • Provides oral and written descriptions of individuals' physical or behavioral changes.
  • Observes client/patient/resident activities, recording and reporting unusual or hazardous behavior, and conducts periodic rounds to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Escorts individuals to social, recreational activities, and medical appointments on and off campus.
  • Applies appropriate interventions to prevent or de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
Requirements

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Delaware certification as a Nursing Assistant or eligibility for a Delaware certification.
