  • Position Overview
    • The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing a range of imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety protocols are adhered to. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients, facilitating their imaging requirements effectively. The specialist assists healthcare providers during office examinations and administers treatments and therapeutic procedures as directed. Additionally, they gather patient information and conduct limited evaluations as necessary, while performing related technical tasks that support the healthcare team. Patient and family education is also a vital component of this role, along with laboratory functions such as obtaining and processing specimens.
  • Essential Qualifications
    • Experience
      • No prior experience is required.
    • Educational Background
      • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program is mandatory.
    • Licensure and Certification
      • Registration or eligibility for registration with the ARRT is required.
      • Certification as a Radiation Operator in the State of Kentucky is necessary. Candidates certified prior to 1978 may be considered grandfathered into the profession, exempting them from ARRT registration.
  • Job Responsibilities
    • The following duties outline the primary functions of this position. Additional responsibilities may arise, and specific tasks may evolve over time:
      • Collects patient history and diagnoses relevant to the ordered exam based on established criteria.
      • Processes imaging exams in digital radiography (DR) and finalizes studies by submitting them to the appropriate system; enters necessary information and documents the completion of exams.
      • Conducts exams or adjusts procedures as needed when standard protocols cannot be followed.
      • Retrieves the latest relevant exams and reports for physician and radiologist comparison.
      • Operates radiology machines and produces radiographs for various examinations, adhering to established procedures. Adjusts procedures within policy guidelines when necessary.
      • Correctly identifies patient films with the patient's name, date, and exam number, ensuring proper shielding and collimation for patient protection.
      • Maintains and operates departmental equipment, employing appropriate techniques and care. Reports equipment issues to the relevant personnel and documents the details accordingly.
      • Records the completion of examinations in patient records in line with departmental protocols.
