**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Stable Isotope and Metabolomics Core (SIMC) Facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing mass spectrometers, assisting in assay preparation, and performing laboratory management tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mass Spectrometer Management: Manage mass spectrometers, assist in assay preparation, and perform laboratory management tasks.
  • Assay Preparation: Assist in preparing assays, aliquoting samples, and labeling tubes.
  • Laboratory Management: Manage sample location in the freezer using the SIMC freezer management program, perform SIMC accounting, and order mass spectrometric assays, standards, and chromatographic supplies.
  • Sample Management: Interact with customers to receive samples, manage sample location in the freezer, and perform SIMC accounting.
  • Technical Procedures: Perform a moderate number of simple or moderate technical procedures, require infrequent guidance, and occasionally modify technical procedures.
  • Equipment Operation: Occasionally operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex, high-tech equipment.
  • Data Analysis: Occasionally analyze and interpret data, and may make written contributions to papers and grant proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience.
  • Experience: 2 to 4 1/2 years of related experience, with some experience in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and/or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis (LC/MS).
  • Skills: Good organizational and communication skills, with the ability to handle chemicals and standard lab equipment.

Compensation:

  • Hiring Rate: $30.10
  • Post Probationary Rate: $30.63
  • Job Rate: $31.58
