Job Description

At James Fisher Technologies, we are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Loveland, CO. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and developing complex mechanical equipment and systems for the nuclear industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement design concepts from concept through detail design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and installation.
  • Produce and check detailed part and assembly drawings, including limits and fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and surface finish.
  • Provide full engineering calculations to support designs and review and approve technical reports and documents.
  • Specify components and systems based on calculations and relevant practical experience.
  • Support change control and scope/variations to contract.
  • Work as part of a design team and interact with other engineering disciplines.
  • Produce HAZOP studies / Safety Cases.
  • Support project engineering leads and project managers with technical backup.
  • Enforce working to processes and procedures.
  • Assist business development with quotations for new business.
  • Drive down design times with cost-saving innovations.
  • Manage CAD data and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • Nuclear or high hazardous remote special purpose machinery design experience a plus.
  • Conversant with nuclear design procedures.
  • Professional Engineer or working towards achieving.
  • Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
  • Knowledge of drawing principles and standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Must have working knowledge of complex mechanical equipment and fabrications, manufacturing techniques, materials, and processes.
  • Ability to operate both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design (Inventor and Vault system/SolidWorks) software packages.
  • Knowledge of relevant EH&S legislation.
  • Possess basic business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of EFD'S, P&ID's, and MFD's.
  • Working knowledge of designing equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work with export-controlled items.

Working Conditions:

Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites.

JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Occasionally lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems.
