Position Overview:
The Clinical Pharmacist operates under general supervision, managing the supervisory, distributive, and clinical responsibilities of the Pharmacy. This includes the timely and precise review, processing, verification, and monitoring of physician orders, patient medication records, and completed prescriptions. Regular daily rounds on assigned nursing units are conducted to ensure optimal patient care.
Essential drug information, recommendations, and interventions are provided promptly to physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients. The Clinical Pharmacist collaborates with the Director and Assistant Director of Pharmacy to enhance departmental performance and adapt services to meet the evolving needs of the hospital and community.
Assigned projects are conducted, performed, and presented to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other relevant committees as necessary. Responsibilities delegated by the Director or Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services are executed accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred. The Pharmacist is expected to maintain an appropriate level of competency by completing a minimum of 15 Continuing Education (CE) credit hours annually, including 6 CE live credit hours.
Educational Background:
A degree from an accredited college of pharmacy is preferred. Continuous education is vital for maintaining competency.
Key Skills:
The ability to work independently or with minimal supervision while managing stress effectively is essential. Collaboration with health-system and pharmacy staff is crucial.
Adaptability to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and schedule is necessary. The Pharmacist must prioritize tasks, make informed decisions, and respond swiftly to urgent requests. Meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of patients across all age groups—neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric—is a fundamental requirement.
Strong communication, supervisory, organizational, learning, and basic teaching skills are vital for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the employee to frequently stand, sit, and walk, as well as use hands and fingers. The employee must occasionally exert 15 to 20 pounds of force and frequently handle 5 to 10 pounds of force. Normal hearing and vision ranges are necessary for effective communication and work performance. The role involves intense concentration and the operation of equipment in a well-lit, ventilated, and secure environment.
