Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiologic Technologist to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing radiographic procedures, working independently with minimal supervision, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures, including transporting, transferring, immobilizing, and positioning patients.
  • Calculate and select proper technical factors, operate equipment, acquire and process images, and properly identify images with patient I.D. and markers.
  • Provide radiation protection, assist physicians with contrast media administration, and perform first aid when necessary.
  • Instruct and advise Radiologic Technology students in performing Radiologic exams, sterile technique, and proper stocking of supplies.
  • Assist in research and Quality Improvement projects, and maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned areas.
  • Rotate within department divisions and off-site clinics, by shifts as required, and cooperate with all personnel to promote harmony within the department.
  • Explain exams to patients, considering physical and emotional needs, and maintain ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.).
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, and maintain CEU's in accordance with Massachusetts state licensure and A.R.R.T. requirements.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Valid Massachusetts license as a Radiologic Technologist in the category of Radiography.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent.
  • Years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate and utilize all types of x-ray and related equipment and supplies.
  • Effective use of interpersonal skills to deal with patients and fellow employees under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Ability to read and interpret requisition forms.
  • Comprehension of complex information and use of independent judgment in various situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to transfer knowledge and skills to students and new employees.
  • Understanding of the Radiology Information System and Hospital Information Systems that integrate with the Department of Radiology.
Working Conditions
  • Prepared to work OT, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • Works in a large open area in radiology, which is noisy and has extreme temperature and humidity variations.
  • Minimal exposure to ionizing radiation when using proper safety procedures.
  • Continuous standing and lifting.
  • Exposure to human waste and disease.
  • Considerable stress from dealing with a wide variety of hospital staff, patients, and families.
