Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathologist Assistant to join our team at KA Recruiting Inc. as a Medical Laboratory Professional in Surgical Pathology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and process specimens from the operating room and/or endoscopy suite, ensuring accurate and timely handling.
  • Perform clerical duties in the Surgical Pathology cutting room, including order entry and updates in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Develop and maintain organizational skills to prioritize daily activities and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Handle small fragments of uncomplicated tissue samples and gross examination of large, complicated surgical specimens for histologic diagnostic examination.
  • Prepare and cut tissue samples for frozen sections at 5 μ (microns) in a cryostat and stain routine Hematoxylin/Eosin.
  • Perform quality control to ensure high standards in the laboratory and process requests from pathology residents and attending physicians.
  • Procure fresh tissue samples for research and/or specialized studies, including cytogenetics, flow cytometry, and electron microscopy.
  • Organize and store surgical specimens until discarding and utilize a voice recognition application to dictate gross examination reports.
  • Participate in organ evisceration and brain removal in autopsy cases and ensure proper disposal of tissue and chemical waste.
  • Train other staff on cutting room procedures as needed.

Requirements:

  • State of New York License for Pathologist Assistant required.
  • Cryo-rotary Microtome (Leica, Microm, Tissue-Tek) experience.
  • Laboratory Information System: Epic Beaker knowledge.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for all Surgical Cutting Room techniques and Autopsy techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of all equipment used in Surgical Cutting Room and autopsy suite.
