Position Summary:

Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS) invites applications for full-time graduate school faculty members with expertise in Restorative Justice and a commitment to racial, social, and economic justice. The person hired will also serve in a leadership role at the School's Center for Justice Reform (CJR) and oversee the continued implementation of the CJR's Restorative Justice courses, certificate, and master's degree programs. This is primarily a residential position.


Summary of Responsibilities:

VLGS seeks candidates, preferably those holding a Ph.D. in Restorative Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, or a closely related field. The successful applicant will have experience effectively teaching students and/or relevant practice experience. Applicants should also have experience serving in a leadership role within a program or organization, including fundraising and grant application experience.

The successful candidate will serve as the principal coordinator of the Restorative Justice program, which includes the Master of Arts in Restorative Justice degree and Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice, in close cooperation with other CJR members and the Dean of the Graduate School. The person hired will teach one or more Restorative Justice courses. As the Restorative Justice Coordinator, the successful candidate will help recruit new students and faculty, coordinate course offerings, advise students, help serve as a CJR Restorative Justice liaison to the rest of the school, and fulfill committee and service requirements for all faculty.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve in a leadership role at the Center for Justice Reform, including coordinating the Restorative Justice courses, degree, and overall program
  • Teach Restorative Justice course/s
  • Support the creation of new courses, recruit adjunct faculty, conduct a comprehensive review of the Restorative Justice curriculum, and develop further student engagement, including expanded experiential offerings and supervising externships
  • Support regular and adjunct faculty in their teaching of the CJR courses
  • Mentor students in learning, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Provide timely feedback in the form of assessment, grading, and other requested formats using appropriate campus-provided platforms
  • Fulfill committee and service requirements for all faculty and otherwise comply with the provisions of the faculty handbook
  • Assist with facilitating campus-based responses to harm


Requirements:

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Ph.D. preferred; master's degree required
  • Experience in restorative justice practices
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining external program funding
  • Understanding of and appreciation for inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints
