The position reports directly to the Group Director leading the Process Chemistry & Catalysis (PC&C) Team.Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Process Chemistry Group Manager to lead/mentor research scientists that are advancing early-stage discovery projects through pilot scale.
Experience leading teams responsible for developing a variety of diverse chemical technologies is essential. Technical leadership and expertise desired in the areas of organic synthesis, scale up of chemical processes, diverse purification techniques, and experience with standard and advanced analytical instrumentation. This individual must also have management experience with oversight over scientists possessing deep technical knowledge.The Process Chemistry Group Manager will be an integral member of the Process Chemistry & Catalysis Team and will serve as a member of the PC&C Leadership Team.
The incumbent will collaborate with groups across ADM Research to advance processes and products that are designed to convert ADM feedstock materials into value added products in the areas of sustainable materials and specialty ingredients.Job ResponsibilitiesPerform all job functions in accord with company safety guidelinesChampion innovation at ADM both internally and with external partnersProvide global expertise within ADM in fields of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and industrial process chemistryServe as a motivated leader of the Process Chemistry Group and act as technical mentor for colleagues in the Process Chemistry labServe as chemistry expert for Plant and Business operation leaders as necessaryCollaborate with PC&C Technical Director and Group Director to develop and act on long-term strategic plans Interface with ADM Science and Technology Leaders to influence the strategic direction of ADM business and research focus for Sustainable Materials portfolioProvide technical leadership to serve as a communication bridge between Chemistry teams within Decatur S&T and external ADM labsInterface with Technical Managers and Commercial Teams to advance ADM technology towards commercial goalsApply expertise in organic chemistry and process development to advance ADM's research programsOversee lab to pilot scale projects to help generate data and support commercial opportunitiesOversee development of technical reports and technology transfer packages of scalable technology to pursue commercial opportunitiesLead projects for diverse technical teams utilizing gated project management toolsReport on status of research activities through verbal updates, written reports, and presentationsEnsure lab technicians, contract employees, and other coworkers follow ADM laboratory standardsParticipate in safety reviews with colleagues on a variety of projectsSkills and ProficienciesPh.D. in organic chemistry or chemical engineering with at least 10 years of industry experience in process development roleCandidate must have at least 5 years of line management experience in industry with multiple direct reportsExperienced group leader that has guided team members on projects that led to commercial successStrong leadership skills to encourage open collaboration, promote constructive feedback, and motivate diverse group of team membersKnowledge of safe hazardous material handling and hazardous communication requirements and proceduresSolid understanding of statistical software, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Microsoft OfficeAbility to function independently while interacting with ADM management, facility management, and ADM contract employeesEffective communication skills to effectively engage colleagues in research, operation, and business groups as well as external organizationsExperience with project management tools Uncompromising commitment to safety Excited about this role but don't meet every requirement listed?
