Located in Northeast Oregon, La Grande is nestled within the mountain ranges that dominate our landscape Blue Mountains to the west and Eagle Caps to the southeast. These mountains surround the Grande Ronde Valley, the second largest enclosed valley in the world and home since 1907. Needless to say, we enjoy a diverse and rich outdoor lifestyle. With a four-season climate, Union County is home to many outdoor activities and sports year-round. Summer and spring offer opportunities for all styles of fishing; as well as kayaking and swimming, camping, bird watching, hiking, four-wheeling and trail-riding on mountain bike or horseback. The Mount Emily Recreation Area (MERA) is just two miles from La Grande, providing nearly 3,700 acres of year-round access to the Blue Mountains. In winter, MERA is popular spot for back-country skiing and snow-shoeing. Union County is home to Eastern Oregon University, founded in 1929, and also home to the OHSU School of Nursing on-campus program. Group serves a base population of about 25,000 residents, while also providing care for many in the Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington area. With an employed provider staff of 80, we continue to recruit world class professionals. Four of our 13 clinics are well-established, certified Primary Care Medical Homes, including the Elgin Clinic, which lies at the north end of our county; and the Union Clinic, which lies at the south end.
