Seattle, United States Amazon.com Services LLC Full time

As part of the AWS Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon’s unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers’ businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon’s real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use. The Team: Just Walk Out Tech enables a variety of frictionless retail solutions. In our RFID enabled stores deployed in stadiums, our fast checkout solution significantly reduces wait times and increases customer sales during sporting events and concerts. In our JWO enabled 3P stores, you can simply use the app or your palm (biometrics) or credit card to enter the store, take what you want and simply walk out (no checkout). Our Just Walk out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart walking through our lanes. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt. Designed and custom-built by Amazonians, our technology uses computer vision, RFID and wireless tech and advanced machine learning. Our goal is to revolutionize the retail experience and innovation is part of our DNA. We need people who want to join a high-reaching program that continues to push the state of the art in computer vision, machine learning, distributed systems, embedded software and hardware design. We are looking for excellent engineers that epitomize technical and operational excellence – that can drive innovation and apply state-of-the-art technologies to solve real world challenges. As an Embedded Software Manager within our team, you will engage with a skilled and accomplished cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative technologies. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive and deliver key aspects of technology solution definition, execution and validation. Full cycle product development experience from inception through maturity is important. Working simultaneously on projects in different phases is common; you are able to demonstrate strong design and validation skills in addition to the understanding of mechanics of ongoing operational excellence and product support. You are responsive, flexible, a great mentor to your team and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. The Role: This individual will shape his/her organization, its structure and processes with the goal of building embedded software systems that enable various new hardware sensing options as well as continue support and operational excellence of our existing biometric or RFID or vision or sensor fusion based solutions. This leader should be able to set up the overall embedded system design for new hardware products that covers low level embedded firmware, enabling reliability and manufacturing teams, integration with back-end cloud infrastructure, provisioning and security infrastructure details. This individual is also expected to build strong and mature organization of embedded engineers with successors in place who have the ability to take on a broader leadership role in a few years. • Recruit, manage and lead a world class team of software and system developer engineers with focus on end to end embedded IoT system design.• Work with the hardware, reliability and manufacturing, cloud back-end infrastructure, security, provisioning and business organizations in Seattle, Cupertino and internationally to execute on the current software and firmware deliverables to enable our product strategy for JWO technology.• Make high judgment decisions on how to accomplish and prioritize among new features, operational efficiency improvements, software resiliency and reliability initiatives.• Lead a team that will design and implement robust production grade firmware solutions for various embedded IoT devices end to end including provisioning, security and cloud integration. The team will also provide board bring-up, testing and troubleshooting as well as maintaining and building on existing IoT infrastructure and platform.• Continue to raise the bar on operational excellence of our existing technical solutions (Firmware management for our existing solutions in Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS and Android)• Lead by example and foster technical innovation within the team through design reviews, process improvements, identifying technical bottlenecks and encouraging measured risk taking when providing solutions.• Work closely with cloud back-end infrastructure team to define newer, better interfaces to enable end to end IoT solution for our various sensing products and solutions for JWO technology.• Strategically develop software and cloud metrics to enable strong data driven approaches for key business decisions.• You might need to travel to our software or hardware suppliers and vendors world-wide (10% travel).Embedded/firmware/lower level software development experience will be highly regarded.About the teamDiverse ExperiencesAmazon values diverse experiences.
