Description SUMMARY:
The primary job function of a Can Making Lead/Mechanic is to lead production activities (on a specified shift) of the Canning Department and provide support to the Shift Manager.
The Lead/Mechanic assists with manpower utilization, production efficiencies, quality standards, and production units per man-hour.
Also, the Lead/Mechanic is to ensure that all FDA requirements and Company Standard Operating Procedures are met.
Flexibility to meet changing demands in an operational team oriented environment is a necessity.1st Shift - Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Lead the activities of the can making personnel to ensure safe and efficient can making operations and product quality.
Lead day to day work force utilization; assist with training needs, and provide cross-training opportunities. Assist in the overall planning, directing, and controlling of the activities in the can making group. Maintain an organized filing system for start-up, shut down and cleaning procedures. Make recommendations to Manager and the QA department for quality and process improvements. Coordinate tasks with the other operating departments. Ensure that all required documentation has been processed in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all FDA requirements are met. Interface with the maintenance department to ensure that mechanical issues are handled in a timely and appropriate manner. Serve as a leadership resource to department technicians. Provide information to management in a timely and appropriate manner.
Lead regular team meetings using a structured team meeting process, to review team actions plans, identify the root causes, plan actions, and assign a team member for completion of the action plan.
Ensure all work orders are completed on a timely basis Train others to perform preventative maintenance and inspections during shutdowns and outages. Implement and update change over procedures to meet the plant guidelines. Communicate information to Plant Manager and to the Shift Manager regarding technical issues, equipment problems, and continuous improvement ideas. Work with equipment vendors or technical representatives on re-builds, service visits and equipment training to reduce downtime. Complete special projects as required such as rework and mass cleaning. Address all mechanical, electrical, material and safety discrepancies as detected and/or report these discrepancies to appropriate personnel as necessary. Clean and sanitize machines to meet legal and quality standards.
Ensure that job operations maintain or improve product quality. Stop and correct job operation if product quality is affected negatively.
Maintain high morale and quality focus among plant personnel. Maintain proper safety conditions of equipment and of Company assets. Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area. Adhere to company policies concerning GMPs. Comply with all standard safety practices, safety guidelines, and all Company guidelines and policies. Provide input on plant issues as requested. Work shift and/or overtime plus weekends as required. Demonstrate good attendance. Effectively read, write, speak and comprehend English.
Requirements QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The individual must be in the department and assigned to the shift.
