Job Description

A healthcare organization located in New Jersey is seeking an experienced Oncology Triage Nurse (RN) to join their medical team. The Oncology Triage Nurse (RN) will be responsible for assessing patients' conditions over the phone, providing appropriate medical advice, and coordinating further care when necessary.

About the Opportunity:

  • Setting: Outpatient
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: Business hours
  • Specialty: Ambulatory Oncology Services

Responsibilities:

The Oncology Triage Nurse (RN) will:

  • Performing patient assessments over the phone, determining the urgency of care needed, and directing patients accordingly
  • Collaborating with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure patients receive appropriate follow-up care or emergency services when necessary
  • Counseling patients on home care and health management strategies when immediate in-person care is not required
  • Managing patient inquiries about lab results, prescriptions, and treatment plans
  • Documenting telephone triage encounters and care recommendations in medical records accurately
  • Refilling prescriptions and coordinating prior authorizations when necessary
  • Ensuring the appropriate arrangement of home care services or durable medical equipment as needed

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of nursing experience (triage or clinical setting preferred)
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
  • Active RN license in the state of New Jersey
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledge of telephone triage protocols and clinical assessment techniques
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage patient care effectively

Desired Skills:

  • Oncology or outpatient clinic experience preferred
  • ONS Chemotherapy certification
  • Experience in patient education and emergency intervention
